The Saratoga Race Course is a historic piece of the Saratoga Springs, NY area. Dating back to the mid-1800's, Saratoga has been the summer home of many wealthy americans and a big spot for tourism and gambling.

The Saratoga Horse Racing dates back to 1863 when a casino owner, ex-boxing champion and soon to be congressman John Morrissey set up Saratoga's first thoroughbred horse race. It was set up at an old dirt track on union ave, later known as Horse Haven.

The first meet was four days long and over 5,000 people showed up to bet on the race horses. With this meet being so succesful, Morrissey wanted to expand further and called upon some of his wealthy friends to help form the Saratoga Racing Association.

After the Association was formed, Morrissey purchased 125 acres of land on the otehr side of Union Ave and built a beautiful grandstand which is when Saratoga Race Course was born.
